Conference working language: English

With the globalization trend of higher education and the needs of disseminating knowledge internationally, English for Academic Purposes has been increasingly implemented on campuses and taken on new aspects.  In China, for instance, academic skills have reacently been included in China College English Teaching Guidelines, siginfying a paradigm shift in ELT at tertiary level. This conference aims to explore the use and usage of technologies, methods, strategies of EAP teaching and research in Asian countries and worldwide. This conference is aiming to offer:

 

• Keynote speeches from internationally renowned EAP experts;

• A forum on the relationship between EAP and technologies;

• Concurrent sessions/workshops presenting theories, practices and advice on how technologies can benefit EAP teaching and research;

• An opportunity for publishers and software developers to present their products.

Themes of the conference include, yet are not limited to:

 

1. New technologies in Academic English research

2. Academic English across disciplines

3. Academic English of Asian scholars 

4. Academic English of Asian learners

5. Teaching academic English through technologies

6. New technologies in lexicography of Academic English

 

We also welcome slide presentations, seminars and poster presentations on topics including yet not limited to writer’s identity, voice, textual complexity, plagiarism, text borrowing, writing across the curriculum, writing program adminstraiton, writing assessment, teacher feedback, grading rubrics for essays, and so forth.

 

Pre-conference workshops

Two pre-conference workshops are to be organized by CEAPA Center for Research Writing and Publishing in English on May 19, 2017:

• Pre-conference workshop 1: Using corpus technologies for EAP teaching and research (Presenter/s to be confirmed, Morning, May 19)

• Pre-conference workshop 2: Publishing in international journals (Co-hosted by Dr Yongyan Li, University of Hong Kong, China, and Dr. Guangwei Hu, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Afternoon, May 19)

 

In-conference workshops are invited

Teams of researchers are invited to submit a series of abstracts on a certain topic, and in-conference workshops on such topics are to be organized parallel to group presentations.

 

Conference fee: 800 RMB or 130 US dollars

Pre-conference workshop fee: 100 RMB or 16 US dollars for each workshop
